Norman David Kamau Sigidi Nixon Jr.  

Norman David Kamau Sigidi Nixon Jr.

His full name is Norman David Kamau Sigidi Nixon, Jr., but at the Washington Tae Kwon Do Club (WTKDC), he is called "Storman Norman".  The eleven-year old, 4th Gup Blue Belt is no stranger to winning.  In 2007 he became the all-time winning underbelt in the history of the WTKDC.  The only WTKDC students who have won more than Norman is 3rd Degree Black Belt, Jamese Wyatt and Grandmaster James Wyatt his primary instructor .

Norman is an honor roll student at Stuart Hobson Middle School, he finished the 2007 school year with a 3.6 grade point average and he is also a member of the Union Temple Baptist Church. In the summer of 2008 he was selected to serve as a Delegate to the National Congressional Youth Leadership Conference in College Park, Maryland. Norman was also featured in the 2007 National Youth Sporting Alliances national magazine for their Fall Sporting Kids Spotlight.

He started his sports career at the age of 7 playing soccer.  Since that time, he has played on local youth football and basketball teams and is currently listed as a national champion martial artist.  His life goals are to become a professional athlete or community worker.  He also intends to earn a Black Belt and teach martial arts to others after going to college.

Norman is currently a member of the Watkins Hornets, Jr. Pee Wee Football Team. He was selected  Team Captain & Most Valuable Player for the 2006 Watkins Hornets Mighty Mites –Pop Warner Football Team and  Team Captain &  Most Valuable Player for the 2007 Watkins Hornets 9 and under Basketball Team. He was also the Team Captain for the 2007 Watkins Hornets 10 and under –Pop Warner Flag Football and Junior Pee Wee Football Team.

  He is currently on pace to win national titles on the Karate World Ratings, NASKA and WOMAA martial arts circuits. 

  In his four years as a Tae Kwon Do student, Norman has soared to the top of his age group and division nationally.  He is currently in contention to repeat as a national champion in 2008.   A few of his martial arts achievements include:

  • NASKA National Karate Champion 2005 and 2006

  • NASKA Top Ten 2007

  • Karate World Ratings National Champion  2005 ,2006 and 2007

  • Karate World Ratings Children’s Competitor of the Year  and Triple Crown Winner 2005

  • Karate World Ratings Grandmaster Eric Lee Sportsmanship Award Recipient 2006

  • Promoters Plus State  and National Champion 2005 and 2006

 

Accomplishments

  • 34 combined Grand Championships in Forms, Weapons and Sparring

  • 148 First place wins in three years of competition

  • Member of Karate World Ratings Team USA National Karate Team 2005-2008

  • Member of Washington Tae Kwon Do Club Black Belt Club

  • Selected as Up and Coming Martial Arts Champion by Promoters Plus 

  • Has trained with Grandmasters Furman Marshall, Eric Lee, James Wyatt, and Master’s Greg Davis, Garry Holman, Waymon Beavers, Margaret D. Simpson, Calvin Williams, Gregory Kennedy, Vincent E. Jones, and. Albert Cheeks a member of the first USA Team at the 1973 World Tae Kwon Do Games in Seoul Korea.

  Norman is the son of Deacon Asya and Norman Nixon Sr. He has one sister Khadijah Nixon who is an accomplished dancer and cheerleader. Recently, Norman donated 75 of his karate trophies to organizations, that didn’t have funds to purchase trophies.
