I'm very excited to come across your site!!!! My daughter BAILEY has
been involved in Goju Ryu, for 5 years now and lives , eats and sleeps Karate. She is always excited to come across other kids/teens that she can compare notes with, worst fight she has ever been in , best
Kata, and how girls rule in martial arts. Bailey has been on a local karate team for some time now and recently went international at the Ozawa Cup in Las Vegas this year, which she placed first in
Kumite. She loved the high caliber skills of many competitors, and she talks more about the wonderful kids she met and the awesome, her words, demos such as Elisa Au!!!! Thank you
again for your site and hope to hear great things from all your readers!
Prevent Dehydration this Summer
We all know that we must drink more water during the hot
weather, but do we make allowances for students, especially
children during the class?
It's well established that dehydration can have detrimental
effects on sports performance. For example, during endurance
events 1% bodyweight loss through dehydration would result
in a 2% decrease in performance, a 2% decrease in bodyweight
would result in a 3% decrease in performance over 1500 meters, which is over six seconds at world-class pace! More
extreme levels of dehydration of around 7% loss of
bodyweight will have even more dire consequences,
drastically affecting coordination and reducing performance
by over 30% in endurance events!
Dehydration can also lead to
• Heat cramps are least serious and usually first to occur
• Heat exhaustion develops when body becomes dehydrated in
hot environment
• Heatstroke is a medical emergency and, if untreated,
usually causes death.
To avoid Heat related emergencies
• Wear loose lightweight clothing
• Rest frequently in shady or cool areas
• Drink adequate fluids
• Avoid exertion if overweight or elderly.

The patches show this was for Ed Parker's American Kenpo. The thick red stripe plus one thin one signifies a 6th dan rank.
