Kids
with cerebral palsy get kicks from martial arts
St. Louis Post-Dispatch, United States -The
sport of martial arts has long been a fun way for children to get fit, learn
self-discipline and improve focus. Learning kicks, punches and blocks
requires concentration and strict attention and often leads to improved
self-esteem.
Children ages 7 and up who are patients of Dr. Jan Brunstrom,
director of the Cerebral Palsy Center at St. Louis
Children's Hospital, also have the opportunity to participate in the
only known martial arts program specifically adapted to meet the needs of
children with cerebral palsy. The classes, called "Fighters With
Courage and Power," teach a form of martial arts called Kajukenbo,
a blend of karate, judo and jujitsu, kenpo and kung fu. Instructors Ken
Sills and Charlie Walton, both black belts, share a vision for
bringing the benefits of the martial arts to the disabled.
"The martial arts help children with disabilities with their balance,
stamina, mental clarity, focus, independence and self-esteem," Sills
said. "When they are here, they feel like they are superheroes."...

Malvern East's Chloe Iriyadi, 16, has just
brought home a silver medal from the Junior World Tae Kwon Do
Championships in Izmir, Turkey. The only team member to win a medal,
and the first-ever Australian female to take a junior world silver, Chloe
defeated girls from Thailand, Serbia, the US and Belarus,
but lost to China in the final. Her international competitors'
skills were closely matched, Chloe said: "At that level, most people
are about the same, so it's what's in your head that makes the
difference." Preparations included a strict diet and exercise regime to
ensure she qualified for the 63kg division. "You want to get to the
lowest division possible and be the tallest, to get a length advantage with
your legs," she said. Chloe took up tae kwon do seven years ago because
"it looked fun"...

The Lopez family of suburban Houston has become the

a one-and-a-half-car garage and Nicaragua. But it all began,
really, with a misunderstanding that happened like this. Julio
Lopez, a fan of 1970s’ kung fu movies, wanted to enroll
his oldest son, Jean, then 8, in martial arts classes. One day, he
saw a storefront advertising karate lessons. Perfect, Julio
thought. Soon after registering him, though, Julio discovered the
truth. The truth was Julio didn’t register his son for karate.

Blog
This one isn't about me. I don't even like to Blog. What is
a Blog anyway? I'd rather be surfing.
Regrettably every once in a long while, I have to take time out to complain a bit.
Not about important issues. It's aimed at some
adults that monitor this site to it's every detail. So for them,
those very select limited few (like about two), I
have this rather emotional rant to display. It's not a credo or mantra
or dogma of any kind, just...that's the rules here:
This is a Kids Only Web site!
This site is designed for entertainment purposes only. This is not
meant to represent real life.
Briefly,
I created this site for many reasons,
(this part is most boring). Part of it being we'd (A.
D. Productions) created The
Karate Angels®
as a cartoon series we'd hoped to produce for TV...(they selected the
Jackie Chan
cartoon over us). Anyway, the site has continued to grow (about 8
years now), as a very popular site with over 30 millions kids that visit
this site. So for the kids and the fun of it, I've kept the site going. This my friends...is a labor of love. I retain zero profit from
this endeavor, and I'm not crying. I enjoyed it still. Karate has been good
to me and since I don't teach anymore, this is my way of giving back,...and
because again...its all about the kids...with a site dedicated to martial arts.
Here's my point...our
Martial Arts Kids Hall of Fame is for kids to have fun with. We are not some official Hall of
Fame somewhere that is recognized by the worlds great martial arts fountain, who ever
they are. We are simply an innocent, big little website for kids. You do not
have to be a world champion, just be a kid.
Its not
meant to be about all the mighty facts and details of every fight that's
ever taken place with one kid against another at some tournament in your
town USA. Whether they stretch the
truth or not...doesn't matter at this web site. This is where kids get to
just have Fun!!!!! You only
have to be a kid to interact on this site. That's the rules
here. 1 be a kid. 2 have
fun. Which leads to my...
next point...Whenever
kids send in photos, stories, jokes, poems or submit themselves into the Karate Angels Martial Arts Kids Hall of Fame.
Sometimes we're sent information about themselves that may not
be always so accurate. It could be by mistake or on purpose, who knows? I
don't care. That's is their
given right on this site for kids to by incorrect...regarding all the complete
facts. I'm not holding them up to any standards of correctness of some
outside influences from anyone or organizations. There is no penalty for
errors & omissions here for kids stuff.
final point...I
don't want to be harassed in regards to trivial misstatements. I will not tolerate
it. I will shut the site down in a heart beat, if it ever comes to that day
that we take orders. I have when
asked (not demanded to), been willing to consider all
options that would be amiable for all. Not demands!
Hey Kids...if you' all continue to enjoy and visit this site by the
millions...then the site remains!
enjoy!

A student at Kim Studio of Karate on North Seventh Street, Conklin recently
received earned a first-degree black belt in the discipline of tae kwon do.
Disciplined. Focused. Driven. Respectful of others. At the tender age of seven,
Gabrielle Conklin is already
more in tune with the qualities needed to be successful in life than most
adults. Certainly, Conklin, a seven-year-old North Lebanon Township
resident, is more accomplished in her chosen sport than many grown-ups could
ever hope to be. A student at Kim Studio of Karate on North Seventh Street,
Conklin recently received earned a first-degree black belt in the discipline
of tae kwon do, making her the youngest female black belt in Kim Studio’s
23 years of operation and quite likely one of the youngest in the state.
Yes, she’s seven-years-old and has a black belt. And what
did you do today? “She’s quite an exception,” said instructor Dave
Gladwell of his young student’s prowess. “That’s a remarkable thing at
that age, having that desire and the discipline to go through the techniques
on a consistent basis. That’s what really built her skills so fast.”...
