You
can't stop this karate kid

Victoria Advocate, TX -
One 9-year-old didn't let missing pectoral muscles stop her from excelling
in the art of the bo staff. Cat Farrior, a home-schooled
sixth-grader, turned martial arts into her physical education component
after softball and other activities failed her. "Everything looks
really cool, but there is an exact point for everything to hit," she
said. "It's a lot of fun and I'm really good at it."...

Britney Spears looks sexy, toned and smiley on the much
anticipated cover of Rolling
Stone this week. The magazine doesn't hit stands until Friday, but while
Britney is off getting used to performing
again in Europe before her stateside promotional appearances, we've got
a taste of the interview. In it her longtime manager calls Circus
the album that will "cement her legend status." Here
are highlights:...

From
martial arts to monkeying around

China Daily, China
Zhang Jizhong is taking a break from Louis Cha's wuxia
novels - but this doesn't mean there's any let-up in his grueling routine.
After he has wrapped up the TV adaptation of Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre (Yitian
Tulongji), 57-year-old Zhang will focus on the pre-production of a film
trilogy on Monkey King (pictured), the main character in this ancient
classic, Journey to the West (Xiyouji). "It is hard for me to surpass
the audience ratings and sales my wuxia series have created," he says.
"Journey to the West is an excellent platform for me to realize a
long-held dream, to talk with the world about traditional Chinese culture.
America does a good job in promoting its values through the entertainment
industry, so why can't we when we have so many treasures?"...

BRIGHTON — The world of karate has been
glamorized thanks to movies such as The Karate Kid and Bruce
Lee's classic Enter the Dragon, but for the hundreds
of Rochester-area youths engaged in martial arts, the sport is about more
than just high-flying moves and bone-crushing punches. Alongside her junior

Police Chief: Martial Arts is Key

question CBS 6 put to Richmond's new top cop. Chief Bryan

Strong discipline, strong minds and self confidence. They're a
life long lesson for Brady Taylor. He believes he would be
dead if he had not taken part in a martial arts program. Taylor's
been enrolled in the program for several years. In middle
school, Taylor says older kids picked on and physically
abused him. "They punched me, kicked me, pushed me,
threw me up against the chairs," says Taylor. This
worried Taylor's mother. At one point, Patti Hobbs
thought her son may turn violent. "Columbine really
scared me because Brady was the child who nobody ever paid any
attention to unless they were pounding on him," says
Hobbs. But Hobbs say that changed when Brady signed up
for Martial Arts. "If he could control his own
environment and feel safe then he wouldn't need to lash out and it
has worked...it's been wonderful." ...

About
the B!tch
The Answer B!tch doesn't have to tell you anything about herself, but she will anyway. Because she's good to you like that.
Leslie Gornstein is a Los Angeles-based entertainment reporter and writer of miscellany whose work has appeared in the Los Angeles Times, the New York Post, the Wall Street Journal, Utne Reader and so on and such.
As the Answer B!tch, E! Online's resident question-and-answer columnist, Gornstein has built a fan base of, like, millions of rabid B!tchlettes, many of whom follow her every syllable during her weekly podcast and satellite radio show.
What, that's not enough? The Dibbuk, a horror film based on a feature Gornstein wrote last year, is being produced by Sam Raimi's Ghost House Productions.
What else. Oh, yeah, right.
She knows everything.

Verbal
assaults -- how to defend yourself

By Martha Beck (OPRAH.com) CNN
Cutting remarks, "helpful" suggestions, subtle (or
not-so-subtle) stabs -- how to handle these verbal ambushes?
You can slink away, lose your cool ... or employ Martha Beck's
cleverly adapted martial arts techniques to turn your attackers' words
against them. Hiiiiii-yaa! "Don't worry, hon,"
said Theresa's husband, Guy, when she failed to extinguish all her birthday
candles in one breath. "A woman your age has to be in shape to make
wishes come true. You just don't have the lung capacity." Guy chortled.
Theresa's face turned scarlet. The rest of us chuckled nervously. We were
used to Guy, to the jocular way he planted and twisted stilettos between his
wife's ribs. Like most of Theresa's friends, I'd always found him just
charming enough to be tolerable...
