USA Tae Kwon Do Olympic Team

Charlotte Craig started studying Taekwondo
when she was 5, “the normal age,” she said. Except Craig had a
dysfunctional kidney removed four years earlier, when she was 1, and
the doctor didn’t recommend contact sports.
“I’d beg and cry and be at
home practicing even though I wasn’t really in classes,” she
said. Finally, her parents allowed her to go to the training
center with her two older brothers. Inside, she would round up all
the other little tagalong siblings and pretend to teach her own Taekwondo
class.

Karate Team savors trip to nationals
The News Journal, DE -
Graves, a member of the USA Karate Hall of Fame,
was also the captain of the 1995 USA Karate Team. But these days the 10-time international medalist
is spending more time instructing his daughter, Josette Graves, and
other students at the Delaware Mahato Karate School.
Michael Graves started the Delaware Karate Team
this year, and took them to the National Karate Championship and Team
Trials in Houston last month. Josette Graves, Alyssa DuBois and Erin Logue won
bronze medals for their junior team kata in the under-17 girls
division. DuBois also won a silver medal in the Advanced Short Weapon
Kata division, and Logue won a bronze medal in the Advanced Long
Weapon kata division...

Day one: Life in the village and beyond
Today we are scheduled to travel to our training camp based in
Dalian, China. It's an hour flight from Beijing to Dalian and we
must leave the Village at 8:30 a.m. to travel to the airport. Once
again I do some repacking of clothes and items that I will need
during the 10 days in Dalian. I do some footwork drills in front of
the in-room mural of the discus ring at Beijing National Stadium
(Birds Nest), then go down to the dining hall for breakfast. Today
the weather is beautiful and the air quality and visibility are
superb. I can actually see the beautiful mountains surrounding
Beijing and I see blue sky in between the gray clouds.
The Olympic Village housing for the athletes are high end
apartments built very recently with stone floors and beautiful dark
wood doors, brushed silver fixtures and tiled bathrooms. Each
apartment in the village has already been reserved for occupants to
move in after we leave. There is a rumor that the price of the
apartments will be based on who occupied them during the Games. I'm
sure that the apartments occupied by medal winners will be worth
more....I will have to sign the wall in a spot somewhere and leave a
nice note for the family the moves in after us...
Girl
is tae kwon do champ
San Bernardino Sun, CA
The Performance Martial Arts Center is where Rancho Cucamonga couple Daniel and Jane Kim run a
tae kwon do studio
and teach children and adults the Korean.
The Kims' protege, however, is 8 years old. Danell Kratzer of
Fontana was recently named champion during the national Junior
Olympics Championships in Detroit. She beat a slew of contenders
during a regional meet in Fresno before qualifying for nationals.
There, her sparring techniques got her past more than 2,000
contestants.
"It felt so good to know I accomplished my goal,"
Danell said about becoming junior champion. Not surprisingly, the fourth-grader is hoping to join the Olympic
team when she's old enough. When the Beijing Olympics begin this
week, she'll be glued to the tae kwon do matches, keeping track of
Charlotte Craig, the 17-year-old Murrieta resident who is on the
American tae kwon do team this year. "She just inspires me," Danell said...
